Joe has been a very good boy! We had a doctors appointment today and just expected a "keep doing what you're doing" response, but they took the cast off and gave him a boot. Still not putting weight on it and using the crutches for a couple more weeks, but in the meantime he has exercises to do to work on motion and is very happy!

Update on the Hubby
Well, this is the event that will stop me from blogging to myself, since it seems like the easiest way to share these fun pictures right now. So here we go.... I'll try to post more than once a week ....
It was a fun visit to the Doctor today, of course tied in with voting. Below is the x-ray of the outside of the ankle, how fun will the airport metal detectors be now!
Next up is the ankle itself. I must say it wasn't pretty close up. First is the inside of the right ankle and second is the outside of the right ankle, the outside is the bigger incision. Pretty colors! But they all assured us it is healing well and looked good....
And now we are in a stylin' cast and shoe. They were worried the shoe wouldn't be big enough as they ordered one special for his large feet. But as you can see it's big enough so we can also get a view of the dying toenails from last ski season. :)
And now we begin at least 4 weeks in the cast, still no weight on the foot the whole time, only to balance if need be... The cast will come off mid-September and then recovery begins.

Bounty
In my world, being surrounded by local (a term I use loosely living in Southwest Wyoming) and organic vegetables tends to make everything better.
In addition to what you see below, my bounty this week included a variety of crookneck yellow squash (they were so cute!), zucchini, broccoli, beets, and peppers. The tomatoes and peaches from Grand Junction are just beginning so I'll expect to start refilling the freezer in the next couple weeks when they look a little better, but the melons looked great and I gathered up two. My bounty was from Grand Junction, Laramie, and Utah - to me this is local!
Happy munching everyone, I hope you are enjoying summer's bounty as much as I am.

Broken Ankle
Well, the weekend didn't go as planned...
This is the hubby's leg. Yesterday he fell rock climbing and on the way down his foot hit a ledge and snapped sideways.... not good. Three hours in surgery last night and the doctor said bones were shattered. He can't put weight on it for 6 weeks. It is good that I am now working from home, this could be a long couple months. :)
Just a side note, his toes were cold last night and the nurse found a baby's hat to put on them. :) How cute!

One Cherry Pie
Well it's a competition every year between us and the birds. The last couple years they have been especially greedy! We are willing to share the cherries, but they want to eat all of them! Last year they did. We left one weekend and thought , hmm, we'll have to pick cherries when we get back they are just about right. We got back 2 1/2 days later and there was not ONE cherry left on the tree! And this is a prolific tree!
Just RUDE! This year is almost as bad, but Joe and I managed to get enough for one pie this morning and I have a mere 2 1/2 cups safe in the freezer. It is definitely noticeable I have not been baking as many pies lately, this pie isn't as pretty as previous pies. But it tasted pretty darn good!
The picture is dark, sorry. I used the organic, unrefined, unbleached sugar and I was a little worried, but the flavor was good - no complaints from the guests either. Great fresh cherry flavor.
I admit we are feeling a little nasty toward the birds..... my willingness to share is ebbing.
